TrophyHunter
A Windows overlay to chase 100% Steam achievements: progress, rarity and the matching community guide for each achievement.
About the project
TrophyHunter is a small always-on-top overlay for Steam players who go for 100%. It detects the game you are playing, shows your progress and the global rarity of every achievement, and lets you sort them from easiest to hardest.
For each achievement, it finds the matching section of the most complete Steam community guide and shows it right in the overlay, so you never have to alt-tab to a browser.
It reads Steam's local cache to get your achievements and progress without any API key, even with a private profile. The installer (Windows 10/11, under 3 MB) is not code-signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning: click "More info", then "Run anyway". Games must run in borderless window mode for the overlay to show above them.
What I did
- Desktop app built with Tauri: a Rust back-end and a React / TypeScript front-end, packaged as a lightweight Windows installer.
- Detection of the running Steam game through the Windows registry.
- Parser for Steam's binary KeyValues cache files, to read achievements and progress locally without an API key.
- Steam community guide scraping with a 3-day cache, HTML cleanup and automatic matching between each achievement and the relevant guide section.
- Transparent, frameless overlay with a global hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+H), filters, search and sorting by rarity.
